In your quest to build up your dream bike, add Giant's Contact SLR Carbon Stem to the list of must-have components. This ultra-sleek stem boasts a full-carbon body with an aluminum faceplate and titanium hardware for the lightest weight possible. Just because it's light (135g), doesn't mean it isn't burly. It features and oversize box cross-section for unrivaled stiffness and strength, too. A recessed top cap and semi-integrated upper spacer continue the streamlined theme and increase the real estate that connects to the steerer tube for a super solid front end.
FEATURES:
• Full-composite oversize box cross-section construction
• Extra-stable, 46mm handlebar clamping area
• Titanium stem bolts
• Recessed carbon top cap
• Semi-integrated first spacer for increased steerer tube interface
• 31.8 clamp diameter, +/- 8° rise
• Ultra-light (135 grams)
Stem angle is one of the factors that determines handlebar height. A listed angle of 0 degrees actually provides a rise of 16-20 degrees, depending on the bike's head-tube angle. Flexible, athletic riders prefer lower-rise stems, while recreational riders usually favor higher-rise stems.
Stem length is measured along the side of the stem from the center of the steerer to the center of the handlebar clamp (see diagram). Keep in mind that as a stem provides more rise, its effective length decreases. In the example above, if the +17-degree stem measures 135 mm, it actually extends 108 mm parallel to the ground.
